Shoot Me Softly

Walking into his stunning studio is like stepping into another era. A time when Bacall taught Bogie how to whistle and Lana Turner found out the Postman always rings twice.

Local photographer extraordinaire Alan Weissman specializes in "film noir" photography - the gorgeous, mysterious, black & white style that dominated the 20's and 40's, bringing a much-needed dose of glamour and intrique to the tell all 90's. It's a talent that sets him apart - an innate ablility he discovered quite by accident.

Though he does very little promotion, Alan Weissman's word-of-mouth reputation has spread to such a degree that he has photographed huge stars such as Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Jack Lemmon, and Geena Davis. He counts well-known figures like director Steven Spielberg among collectiors of his work. He has exhibited his photographs in the Brooklyn Museum, Boston's Polaroid Museum and the Isgo Lepejian in Los Angeles, has been interviewed on television and has lectured at several acclaimed acting schools.

HIs work has expanded to worldwide proportions. After winning a prestigious, international photography contest sponsored by Kodak, he traveled to China to capture snippets of life in the epic country. "I was so thrilled," he says of his remarkable journey - and of the beautiful shots that came out of it. "It's my passion to put these photos in an exhibit that will travel from the West all the way to the East."
